Welcome to the official site for the national graduate conference, "Anything but Safe: Sex, Sexuality, and Gender," March 6 to 8, 2009 at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida.

We are pleased to announce that our keynote speaker will be Kate Bornstein, author of Gender Outlaw: On Men, Women, and the Rest of Us.

Updates:
  • Check out our Twitter page! Please help us Tweet the conference.
  • Note a Parking Lot update...remember to check out the map of USF (we are like a little city that is easy to get lost in).
  • We are going to be offering tickets to Kate Bornstein's performance for a donation of $10.00. Please tell your friends.
  • Registration needs to be completed by Feb. 20th in order for your abstract to be printed in our conference program.  Please go to our Registration link to do so.
  • Panels are scheduled for an hour and fifteen minutes. This will give each presenter approximately 20 minutes and 15 minutes for Q and A. Papers are expected to be 8-10 pages doubled spaced to equal 20 minutes for presentation.
  • We have posted a tentative conference program under Conference Information.
  • We have revised our registration page for clarity: any students (graduate or undergraduate) that are not presenting are encouraged to attend at the nominal fee of $30.00.  Please spread the word. We know well the problem of being broke and wanting to attend events like this...
  • A tentative schedule of panels and presenters will be posted by Feb. 5th.  (If all goes well...)
  • 14, 2008: It was recently announced that Robin Williams will be speaking at USF on Saturday, March 7, during our conference, at a time not yet announced.  We are working to modify our schedule so that our events will not conflict with this.  Perhaps for some of you, this will be another draw to attend!
  • November 19, 2008: We are now officially accepting paper proposals from undergraduate students as well as graduate students!
  • December 4, 2008: Billy Joel and Elton John are coming to Tampa for a concert at the St. Pete Times Forum on March 5, 2008.  Tickets go on sale on Saturday, Dec. 6.
  • January 5, 2009: The online registration page is now officially open and working!
  • Skipper's Smokehouse Fundraiser Event: Sunday, Feb. 15 at 2:00 pm

"Anything but Safe" is hosted by USF's English Graduate Student Association and supported by USF's Humanities Institute, the First-Year Composition Program, the Committee on Issues of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, and the Departments of Anthropology, Communication, English, History, Sociology,  and Women's Studies.
