Kleen-e-ze Carpet Sweeper" - advert, 1947
Who remembers the 'Kleeneze Man" knocking on your mother's door? The company is best recalled for its door to door salesman with his case of cleaning samples, a bit like the 'Betterwear Man'. This ad is for their range of carpet sweepers, similar to Ewbanks, that were made in their Hanham, Bristol headquarters. The founder of the company, it started in 1923, was Harry Crook, who went on to be a bit more than a brush maker but Lord Mayor of Bristol. The company still exists, although now based in Lancashire - I think a subsidiary may still exist in Hanham.

A charming '20s style leaflet showing another happy housewife with her Bissell's vacuum cleaner. Many people will recall Bex Bissell as a brand of cleaners - and Bissell's, an American company founded in the 1870s, are still in the same business. This little folder has a sticker attached showing that the cleaners could be bought from the M Cleminson's Stores in Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham.
