when I was very young
when I was very young
When I was a little girl, my great-grandmother had this jewelry box on her dresser. It was wonderful, exotic, black lacquer, painted with scenes from Japan. When you opened the lid it had a tiny dancing Geisha. The sides had tiny red tassles and opened each on their own, and the entire box lifted back to reveal one last compartment, all lined in red silk. When she passed away in the mid-90s, the box disappeared. It's the one thing from her that I really would have liked to have. Last year my grandfather passed away, and I went over to help with sorting his property. In the back of his storage room, tucked into the bottom shelf of a long-since rejected end-table, I found this box. Carefully, removing it from the shelf, I was delighted to see that it was in very good condition, in spite of being at least 65 years old. Now that I had found it, would I be allowed to keep it? My mother replied, "Oh that old thing, Dad has been trying to get me to take that for years." I now display it in a place where I can enjoy it every day. 64/100 Days

The mother-of pearl inlay and the feminine scenes make this upright cabinet delicate and beautiful, one door and one drawer. The woman and the birds on the side of the cabinet are crafted of simulated jade. The hand-painted images on the top, front and sides are of birds, flowers, gardens, trees and mountains and gold paint filigree. The undercoat is black lacquer. The doors pulls are of the Chinese long-life symbol. The legs have a whimsical design. Coordinates with (No Suggestions).
