[18:53] River Grau rummages around through a pile of things. Clothes, pictures, small items thrown about him and all over the apartment. Ornaments dropped from the tree. He even opened a few presents angrily, although didn't damage anything. Yet. He started going through the drawers of the computer desk before something caught his eye on the refrigerator. There was a pause as his eyes focus on the plant and he stares, freezing for a moment before he lifted his hand and moves towards it. [18:58] Alayni Axelrad walks back toward her house, grumbling, she can't believe she forgot her her medical bag, of all things. Still, as she flexed her shoulder it DID feel a lot lighter without it. Maybe she would just grab the more important things out of it. She pulled the keys out of her pocket and clicked the appropriate one into the lock [19:02] River Grau 's hand brushed against the plant, touching it. He remembered the pot it had been placed inside, having decorated it himself so long ago. How old was he then..? Nine..? That seemed like an eternity ago, nearly thirteen by now. An ear flicks as he hears someone outside, then a key turning the lock. The apartment door would already be unlocked from when he pried his WU ID card through the small slit to jiggle it open. Jumping up, he looks for some place to hide before darting behind the large tree at his side. His breath becoming rapid as he surveys what damage he was able to do in such a little span of time. There wasn't a way for him to leave. The boy was trapped. 19:08] Alayni Axelrad had placed the key in the lock, only to have the door swing open a little as she applied pressure. "That's odd..." she thought to herself. Her muscles tensed, considerably, already fearing Chi had gotten into her apartment while she was out. She stepped through the door carefully, ready to spring at whoever lie in wait. She stopped short when she saw River, the broken ornaments, and the torn open present. Her eyes misted over and she was unable to speak a moment. When she at last found her voice, it was shaky, "So ye have taken to robbing me too? I understand ye hate me for what I did...but was this necessary?" [19:12] River Grau frowns, his face pressing against the branches and pine-needles of the christmas tree for a moment, disappointed that it didn't provide as much cover as he hopes. His ears pressing against his head while his hands ball at his side, the boy takes a deep breath before looking over at Alayni. "Didn't steal. Robbin' is stealin', didn't steal." The toe of his slipper kicking at a broken ornament, "Broken stuff was an accident.. Just made a mess.. just looking." Moving out from behind the tree, his gaze fell to the ground while he spoke, not yet running from the door. "Not gonna tell my fathers, are you? Don't want to get in trouble." [19:16] Alayni Axelrad frowned, shifting the candy cane in her mouth from one side to the other. She was quiet a moment. "I dinna River...it depends...what exactly were ye lookin for in here anyway. What do YE think I should do...ye broke into my house...broke me things, though on accident, tore into one o me presents...then tried to hide behind me tree when caught. What would ye do if ye encountered a situation like this? And what in bloody hells where ye lookin fer in here anyway? Somethin to blackmail me with because ye hate me so much now?" she looked at him, unsure of her last statement. The River she knew would never do a thing like that, but she was coming more to the terrible realization that this was not the River she once knew. [19:22] River Grau looks down at his shoes, the frogs on them. His ears flattening while his tail flicked behind him nervously. Fear crosses his features as Alayni asks what he could do if he was in her position and it takes him a moment to realize she would never do anything like that. It was the reason he took the risk. "I don't know..w..wanted to see if it was a lie. Things you said 'bout leavin'. Just wanted to see." His eyes narrowed, anger flashing across them. "You left. Didn't care. I had to find somebody to take care of me. Probably don't even know who fathers are. I..I don't have to be worried." Out of the corner of his eye he saw the plant again, and thought about how well it must have been taken care of to grow so high.. For a moment, he wondered if she didn't throw him away as much as he thought.. or perhaps even hoped. [19:26] Alayni Axelrad folded her arms across her chest, "I did care River, ye are just too stubborn to get it through yer thick skull that I did. If I dinna care about ye, I never would have bothered taking ye in in the first place, wouldnt have bothered to feed ye, wouldnt have made sure ye were taken care of medically, wouldnt have come running whenever ye were in trouble....if that was the definition of someone who dinna care, then the world would be a lot better place t

Gadhada II-41: A Bone in the Form of Egotism On Kartik vadi 11, Samvat 1880 [28 November 1823], Swami Shri Sahajanandji Maharaj was sitting on a large, decorated cot on the veranda outside the west-facing rooms of Dada Khachar’s darbar in Gadhada. He was dressed entirely in white clothes. He was wearing garlands of yellow flowers around His neck, and tassels of yellow flowers had been inserted in His pagh. At that time, an assembly of munis as well as devotees from various places had gathered before Him. Out of compassion, Shriji Maharaj then began to preach to His devotees, saying, “When a person who wishes to worship God receives an opportunity to serve God and His devotee, he should serve them considering it to be his extremely great fortune. Moreover, he should do so only with bhakti, for the sake of pleasing God and for his own liberation – not for the sake of receiving praise from others. “The nature of a person, however, is such that he only enjoys doing that which satisfies his vanity. Without that, he does not enjoy performing even bhakti of God. For example, a dog takes a dry bone to an isolated place to chew on. As a result of the chewing, its mouth is abraded and the bone becomes covered in blood. Then licking the bone, the dog becomes overjoyed. But little does the fool realise, ‘The taste that I am enjoying is that of the blood from my own mouth.’ In the same way, even a devotee of God is unable to forsake the bone in the form of egotism. In fact, all of the spiritual endeavours he performs are governed by vanity; they are not performed for the sole purpose of pleasing God, thinking of them as bhakti towards God. Moreover, even of the bhakti that he does offer to God, he does so only when it nourishes his pride, but not for the sole purpose of pleasing God. “There must be very few devotees of the likes of Ratanji and Miyaji who offer bhakti to God solely for the purpose of pleasing God without any cravings for praise. Not everyone, however, is capable of forsaking the taste of praise.” In reference to this, Muktanand Swami recited a couplet by Tulsidas: ??? ????? ?????? ????? ????? ???? ?? ??? ? ????? ??? ???? ??? ???? ????? ??? ? Hearing this couplet, Shriji Maharaj added, “The enjoyment which one experiences from vanity cannot be obtained from any other object. Thus, amongst all devotees, a person who forsakes vanity and worships God should be known to be an extremely great devotee.” ? Vachanamrut Gadhada II-41 ? 174 ?
