Roast Lamb Meshoui
Roast Lamb Meshoui
A Moroccan traditional dish - lamb shank braised in natural juice served with roasted eggplant puree, zucchini, capers lemon confit and tomatoes ($18.95) A tad on the salty side - particularly in the eggplant puree and the lemon caper confit mixtures, but nothing that a dining companion's couscous couldn't mellow out (this would probably do a better job than the subtle but much appreciated blanched zucchini and tomato accompaniment). The lamb shank was generous and cooked to a delicious fall off the bone tender consistency, but my prized find was the marrow inside the shank that I scooped out and slathered on any remaining pita left at our table. I think a little less of a heavy hand with the salt would have helped this well executed but not that pretty dish; fine slivers of mint tossed with the al dente vegetables would have helped brighten the sides, and a bed of couscous or similar starch would marry well with the concentrated jus from the braised components.
