low CA table #1a
this is the first official CA table (a low, or coffee table height version). It's a little over 4' long, 17" tall. the legs are Port Orford Cedar... left unfinished -both for the unique smell, and so they remain generally bright. The Claro walnut is from my stash of personally salvaged and milled slabs. I can't believe how gorgeous the grey and blue hues turned out. No PS tricks there. The idea is that all of the wood which composes this piece (and the subsequent ones in this series) are native CA species. The P.O. Cedar does grow into southern Oregon, but in general, I can say the work is wholly CA conceived/derived.
little table that could
i found this little table at The Apartment on 18th st. in the Mission. i believe it is of Danish descent, and the wood grain tells me teak, but i can't say for sure. it's low, so perhaps it is Asian-inspired or designed. all i know is it's the best laptop table ever. i've graduated to a larger coffee table, but the little one makes a lovely platform for a mini-still life. the fabric is a quilted & embroidered pillow cover found thrifting; above it a gold leaf wood tray from a set purchased in Japantown, holding a few of the pottery-ceramic pieces i collect.
