Another London Road is a community group that arose in July 2008 in response to a threatened Tesco development in Brighton's London Road shopping area, between Preston Circus and York Hill.
The threat has apparently subsided for now, but we remain vigilant. We responded to the Council's consultation on its Supplementary Planning Document, feeding in comments based on concerns raised by local residents, shoppers and traders at our drop-in sessions and through our street stalls. This document forms part of the Local Development Framework, which is the Council's strategic planning blueprint for the city.
ALR is preparing a campaign against vehicle idling, which is a major polluter of city centres. We are also hoping to put together a leaflet to promote London Road as a shopping centre, aimed at people who may not be aware of the huge variety of shops to be found there.
