In Bangladesh, it is called "Time Fuul", meaning "Time Flower", because the flower has a specific time to bloom. It is a small but fast-growing annual plant growing to 30 cm tall, though usually less. The leaves are thick and fleshy, up to 2.5 cm long, arranged alternately or in small clusters. The flowers are 2.5ā€“3 cm diameter with five petals, variably red, orange, pink, white, and yellow. It is widely grown in temperate climates as an ornamental plant for annual bedding or as a container plant. It requires ample sunlight and well-drained soils. Numerous cultivars have been selected for double flowers with additional petals, and for variation in flower color La Portulaca grandiflora e una pianta originaria dell?America meridionale. Comprende circa 200 specie di piante erbacee, quasi tutte succulente, con fusti e foglie carnose, di colore verde piu o meno scuro. Possono essere annuali o perenni e a portamento eretto o prostrato. Presentano foglie piatte o cilindriche, che, spesso, hanno alla base un ciuffo di peluria. I fiori, che presentano cinque petali, che possono assumere colorazione variabile dal giallo al rosa al porpora al rosso, sono seguiti da frutti a capsula, contenenti numerosi piccoli semi. Flowers 3-15 in an umbel, to 15 cm long, white. Corona two-thirds as long as the tepals. Armitage's Garden Annuals: A Color Encyclopedia
Horticulturists, students, and dedicated home gardeners will be familiar with Armitage's authority on this topic from his more technical Manual of Annuals, Biennials, and Half-Hardy Perennials. That volume was singled out as a winner of the Choice Academic Book Award, the American Horticultural Society Book Award, and the Garden Writers of America Golden Globe Award. While this new offering is a perfect pictorial companion to the Manual, it also stands alone with its personal commentary and inspiring advice on the most interesting, important, or overlooked plants. Armitage selects proven specimens from nearly 200 genera of plants and evaluates their garden-worthiness and sheer beauty. With humor, authority, and a wealth of practical experience, Armitage offers invaluable insights into those plants that truly earn their keep ā€” and a few that do not! He has illustrated the entries with more than 1300 stunning color photos, rounded out by more than two dozen helpful lists of plants suitable for particular situations or uses, including plants for cool-summer areas, plants for dry situations, edible plants, container plants, shade plants, vines, and flowers for cutting.
