2017 10 28: BIA Awards and Regalia

posted Oct 29, 2017, 9:28 PM by Freydis Egilsdottir

News from the east! At this year's Baronial Investiture Anniversary feast, Lady Inez was honoured in court for her construction and donation to the Barony of a fighter's coif in the Ruantallan colours and with the new populace badge on it. As well as being entered into the A&S competition at the feast, it now forms an official part of the Heavy Champion of Ruantallan regalia! And for its first recipient, the Baron bestowed it upon the new champion, Gaston, with the amused comment, "This is from your mum."

Also, two other Stronghold members were recognized at court: Ulrich von Spandau, our Exchequer, local bowyer, and host of archery practises and our annual camping event, was awarded "Best Newcomer" by the Baron and Baroness! Sounds like they've been trying to catch him at an event since last Thirteenth Night.

And both Ulrich and Freydis Egilsdottir were awarded their Awards of Arms by Their Majesties, Tsar Ivan and Tsaritsa Matilde, King and Queen of the East! So they are now known as Lord Ulrich von Spandau and Lady Freydis Egilsdottir!

2017 09 21: Newspaper Article!

posted Sep 30, 2017, 7:16 AM by Freydis Egilsdottir   [ updated Jan 1, 2018, 9:44 AM ]

O
n Sept. 19th, for the second year, we participated in CFB Greenwood's annual Wing Welcome day with a demo out front. Again, we attracted a lot of interest, with more fighters, as well as dancing added to the activities demonstrated. We also set up House Ravenspeak's Norse encampment, with the tent, table, chests, and bed.

Several people came up from Halifax to help out, and to promote the local group, including Mistress Briana, Lucas LePine, Spurius, Ian Pratt, and Julie Gray.

And thanks to locals Spike (Lord Almaric), Lady Inez, Lord Mikhail, Chiara, Edward, Karl, Astrid, and Freydis, who all also came by to help out and add colour!

The paper even had an article about it, as well as a picture from it in the very next edition!

Well done, everyone! And thank you for helping out!

2017 04 10: Dance Practice

posted Apr 10, 2017, 12:00 PM by Freydis Egilsdottir

We can dance if we want to... Heh.

Dance practice is now a thing! Second Wednesday of every month, at the Bridgetown Regional High School, 456 Granville St, Bridgetown, in the Library from 6 to 8pm. Enter through the front door, at the top of the stairs turn left and go straight ahead.

Water is fine but spill-proof containers are appreciated; we will break at some point for our usual tea and snacks in a classroom (Nesrin's, so pick your crumbs up!).

See you there!

2017 02 28: Elections for Seneschal, Herald Tomorrow!

posted Feb 28, 2017, 1:05 PM by Freydis Egilsdottir

The meeting this week, being on the first Wednesday of the month, will be at House Ravenspeak; because of the poor weather recently, though, we will hold the business meeting, which should have been on the last meeting of the month, last week at Nesrin's, this week instead.

We don't have a lot of business to discuss so it shouldn't take too long, and then we'll continue with our usual weekly chaos afterwards; but we do need to hold elections for two positions, Seneschal and Herald, and if we wait until the next scheduled business meeting, Mikhail won't be able to attend.

If you are interested in running for either position please attend; please note that an SCA membership is a requirement for all officer positions. If you do not have a membership yet, though, you can still be elected provided you get a membership forthwith.

See you at our house, tomorrow at six!

2017 01 11: Ulrich & Shereen Make Archery Royal Rounds!

posted Jan 12, 2017, 1:11 PM by Freydis Egilsdottir

Valonia brought along a copy of the latest Pikestaff to the meeting tonight (the February 2017 edition), and pointed something cool out: Two of our members made the Royal Rounds qualifications: Ulrich and Shereen!

Well done!

2017 01 07: Second Stronghold Christmas Feast/January Feast

posted Jan 9, 2017, 5:21 PM by Freydis Egilsdottir

Many thanks to Brent and Cheryl for hosting this fabulous event.  The exposed wooden beams in your feasting hall gave an excellent period feel, and your banners were lovely.  The beauty and comfort of the space, though, was surpassed by your warm hospitality and good conversation.

The in-garb sledding (under mundane coats except in the case of the viking children) was definitely something to see.  It was enjoyed by all, whether from the vantage of the snowy slopes or through the living room window by the fire.  Although there were no official judges, I believe Olivia and Shereen set the record for distance, while Karl Skullsplitter carried the day for longest standing sled-run.

After a good snowball fight, the sledders moved inside to find a delicious feast laid out.  We got the candles lit, and the lights off, and enjoyed a wonderful evening of food, conversation, and games of chess and hnefatafl until foul weather forced us to head home.  The only downside to the evening was that it was too short, and I for one can't wait until next time.

Our hosts!

Mikhail and Ulrich ponder the options: lamb kebabs, stewed apples, pottage, torte... which will the whipped cream go best upon?

The evening winds down.

And a lovely time was had by all. Thanks again for hosting a delightful supper, Cheryl and Brent!
