Newcomers welcome to all!!

We are starting a new branch of the SCA in Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia.

The SCA or 'Society for Creative Anachronism', is an international medieval recreational group dedicated to education, research, recreating the best parts of medieval life, and most of all, fun.

For further information please contact one of our group's officers.

You will find further information under the listings for each officer; for example, under Arts & Sciences you will find projects our members have done; under Marshal you will find more information about SCA combat.

Under News you will find summaries of our events, and announcements of awards our members have earned.

Since November 2015 we have held regular weekly meetings fighting and armouring practices, crafting classes as well as full events around the Annapolis Valley and attended elsewhere in Nova Scotia; please check under Calendar and Events to see when and where.

If you are a stronghold member and cannot see the Forums listed in the column on the left, please scroll to the bottom of the page and sign in with your Google account. To be added to the forums, please email Mikhail or Freydis.

We are incipient!

We are officially on our way to becoming a full group! SCA group incipiency is a sort of probationary period, usually about a year or slightly longer, for us to prove our ability to run an active group. And now, we're on our way!

We have a name!

Our name is officially 'Ravensdale'. This is an English-style place name that could have existed in the Medieval period. You may also hear used 'Hrafnsdalr' which is the Norse variant and even an older name, 'Hugginsdalr'. Background on this can be found here

Our device passed!

Per chevron inverted embattled argent and vert, in pale a raven displayed sable maintaining in its claws an apple branch proper fructed gules and a laurel wreath argent.

We will work on getting a vector-based file available as well for those of use wishing to play with it. Currently it's developed in CorelDRAW, but other file formats can be made available upon request.

For those that are interested, the wreath signifies that this is a device for an official branch of the SCA. The bird and branch is us (military and civilian population) all within the green Annapolis Valley, with crenellations like the top of a castle to signify a Stronghold, or a branch with a lot of military members.

A banner is being made as we speak!

The Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. (SCA), is an international, non-profit, educational organization designed as a hands-on, learn-by-doing model to research and re-create European life prior to 1600.

At our events, members strive to recapture the ambiance of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

This requires research into such topics as clothing, weaponry, armor, food, music, and innumerable other arts and crafts.

We then attempt to practice and teach what we have learned as authentically as possible, by constructing reproductions of medieval artifacts, practising the arts and crafts we have researched, learning to fight with a sword and shield, and so on.

The SCA began with a small backyard tournament in Berkeley in 1966. It was incorporated in California in 1968 and has grown steadily to a membership of approximately 30,000 paid members, with an estimated figure of perhaps double that number who participate without formal membership.

Members can be found in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East and Far East, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
