    Winter/Spring 2016

TAKE A FACE-TO-FACE WORKSHOP! I'M TEACHING A HANDFUL OF COURSES THIS WINTER/SPRING. HOPE TO SEE YOU IN CLASS.

Electrify Your Writing: Flash Fiction/Prose Poem Workshop. Some call prose poems and flash fiction “kissing cousins.” The genres share compressed length and highly charged language, though spotlight plot and character differently. What are those differences? They may be in the eye of the beholder (i.e. editor) more than writer. Week one we’ll compare and contrast the forms. Week two: dialogue do’s and don’ts. Week three: found experiments (transforming to-do lists, manuals, letters, and more). Analyze work by published writers, peer-critique stories/prose poems weekly (submit one piece up to 750 words per session), and take home prompts to charge up your writing in a flash.  When: March, Tuesdays,9th, 23rd, 30th, 6:00pm-8:30pm; Where: Angela's house, 217 E Sunset Ct, Madison, WI; Cost: $150. Limit: 6.  To register, and/or for more details, email Angela at ajrydell@wisc.edu.

Write Now: Prompts That Propel Your Prose or Poetry. Every writer begins by staring into the same blank page. Together we'll fill it. Try your hand at techniques that intensify image, lure with vivid language, enhance character emotion, surprise both reader and writer, and more. Get support from a writing community and professional critique coach. Includes weekly craft discussions and culminates in an optional in-class critique. All genres and levels welcome. http://continuingstudies.wisc.edu/classes/write-now-prompts-that-propel. When: Session 1: Tues, March 15, 22, 29, 6:15-8:15pm; Session 2: Tues, April 19, 26, May 3; 6:15-8:15pm; Session 3: Tues, May 10, 17, 24: Where: Pyle Center, 702 Langdon Street, Madison, WI; Cost: $135 each session. $10 discount, per session, if you sign up for two or more sessions; Limit: 12.
