Angela Garcia Calvo

Welcome to my site. I am an Assistant Professor at the Henley Business School, University of Reading, UK.

My research explores topics at the intersection of microeconomic policy, structural transformation, globalization, and technology policy. My book State-Firm Coordination and Upgrading (Oxford University Press, 2021) explores the role of governments and large firms in facilitating industrial upgrading in Spain and Korea since the 1980s .

More recently, I have begun studying the political forces shaping digital transformation and resilience.

My work has been published in New Political Economy, Business and Public Policy, and the Journal of Economic Policy Reform. I have also consulted for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the UK Department for Business Innovation and Skills, and the Spanish Economic office on issues regarding internationalization, regulation, and telecommunications policy.

I have held positions at the London School of Economics, Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, UC San Diego’s Global Policy School, Harvard’s Korea Institute, Harvard’s Center for European Studies, Yonsei University, and the Collegio Carlo Alberto.

Prior to my academic career, I worked as an economist for the Spanish government and developed global media strategies for a large corporation in the US.
