Citation for his Military Medal is below. He won this for an act of gallantry on the night of April 19th 1916, in the Ypres Salient. He volunteered to carry a message back to battalion headquarters, over a distance of half a mile through a heavy barrage. He was successful and brought back an answer to the trenches. He was truly a brave soldier as MM's were never issued lightly.
