This is a pretty minor release, fixing the bug reports on the EVO that I have been getting. Specifically, there was an odd error with a scanner that was running out of bounds, so I decreased the limit and that should prevent future issues in the lack of service.
The other change is that now the widget flashes when pressed, to show feedback to the user that the refresh has been restarted.
A quick update to include include a new icon I made.
Edit: I realize that the transparency of the icon is not correct and the update interval in wrong. I'm working on a larger list of websites, so when that is done (should be sometime this week) I'll get those fixed. ~Mike
I have added quite a bit of major changes this time around. The first of which took the most time.
The first thing I added was a configuration utility. The advantage of this is that it is scalable. The only visible item right now is the ability to choose from Four different genres of quotes that the widget will display. In the future I intend to open up the options to a wide variety including color and size of the widget. (rest assured, it will figure out if the quote is too long for the widget)
The other addition is "click to refresh option". Tapping it will refresh the widget. Unfortunately at this point there is no feedback to the user that the action was registered, as I was not able to come up with an elegant way to work this in. Expect this in future updates.
Finally, the last thing I changed was the cryptic error messages. They are no more! I have included a small text file with a list of quotes that it will grab one from in the case of a failed connection to the internet, and you can simply tap to refresh it once you have a connection back
Changed the widget design! Take a look at the new design on the left. This is black to fit with the schema of android better, also if you notice there is a little bit of subtle transparency which shows through to your background. This works best on a static color, in which case you will see a starburst pattern.
In other news, I have begun work a new update, with one new feature, and one change that should have been a long time ago.
First, I am creating a configuration utility that will open on the creation of the widget. In this utility I intend to give you a choice of 4 or 5 different styles of quotes differing from the humorous ones I have right now. I have yet to pick a site for that.
Second, I am changing how I am handling errors. Until now I have been printing the error into the widget text, which looked funny. Going forward I have included a text file with about 50 different quotes that will be randomly selected when when an error occurs. So the result is that there will no longer be cryptic error messages that appear on the widget, and should always have a good motivational quote for you!
