there’s only “after” and “before” -
there is no “during” during war
what does the future hold in store
no war no war no more no more
the time has stopped and I abhor
the void created in my core
I had a heart once but no more
no more no more no war no war
I cannot sleep I’m up at four
my body aches my limbs are sore
and brushing teeth becomes a chore
no war no war no more no more
there must be people who know more
they will explain what this was for
this death this ruin and this gore
no more no more no war no war
there’ll come a day and we’ll restore
each home destroyed each broken door
install new windows sweep the floor
and things will be as heretofore
and everything will spring ahead
except the dead except the dead
