Learn from toddlers (2)

When words fall short of their intended

Meaning, do not blame the muse.

Learn from toddlers – they’ve invented

Language, leaving limits loose.

There is sense in senseless prattle -

Put yourself into their world –

Syntax - shattered, visions straddle

Volumes of the spoken word.

You won’t find it in your diction,

Meter, word choice, and what’s more,

Dictionaries are deficient, -

It must all come from your core.

As the sun spills through the shades,

And the page is swelling white,

Don’t go studying the greats -

Learn from toddlers how to write!
