Hallelujah

Outside the morning clouds turn grey,

They drift along and whisk away

All sense of grief, while quickly passing through you…

The one you love - she’s tucked in bed,

Her arm - stretch out beneath your head

And in her dream, she mouths a hallelujah…

And as you fill the brimming cup

With friends and kin, and then add up

The ones you loved, the lovers who outgrew you,

You see their sum cannot approach

The temple where she kept her watch,

While you retrieved a buried hallelujah…

Now there’s no doubt in your mind,

When you gaze back at what’s behind,

Where every moment threatened to undo you…

She was the rock on which you’ve leaned,

The mountain from which you’ve gleaned

The breaking of the distant hallelujah…

The truth was simple, you were told.

Before the universe, a word

Fell from the ether, started to imbue you…

And so it was, you both awoke

And tuned in as the savior spoke,

And held your breath, then breathed a hallelujah…
