Oprah ~ The Final Taping
Oprah ~ The Final Taping
I was lucky enough to be 1 of 13,000 people to get a ticket to see the final taping of the Oprah show. What a spectacular event this was. I was offered 2 tickets so I took my mom so she could experience this with me. Neither of us have been to one of her shows before so being part of this was beyond cool! And, this is the first time I have ever been in the United Center. Home of the Chicago Bulls basketball and Blackhawks hockey teams. Oprah actually forced the NBA to rearrange the playoff schedule so she could have the center for 2 days. Game 1 of the playoffs was supposed to be played here this past Monday, but due to the Oprah takeover, that game was played last Sunday night. The Bulls are back on track with game 2 set for tonight. While I admit I am not the biggest fan of Oprah, I have watched enough of her shows throughout her 25 year tv career and have always loved her guests. I was sure John Travolta would be part of this so I was excited to go just for that reason alone!! I AM a big fan of his :-) Before taping started, which is called the warm up, they gave the audiance pointers on things we would be doing during the taping. We all got little LED lights to wear on our fingers and at certain times we would be cued to turn them on and wave our hands. Other members of the audiance had white cards that looked like they were about 18"x24", and on cue, they held them up to create a giant screen for projecting pictures on. That was way cool. And from my perspective way up here, I didnt miss a beat with all the happenings down there. They even had an Oprah fan come up on stage with his girlfriend and let him propose to her in front of all of us. Of course, she said yes. What a memory for the 2 of them, eh? Amazing!! The process of producing a show like this was fascinating. I think I spent just as much time checking out the cameramen, the lighting, and all the technical aspects as I did watching the guests. The producer would count down the seconds to rolling the tape, cue us to applause, or to applause again because it wasnt good enough the 1st time......lol. The behind the scenes events were interesting. In the shot above, Byonnce is on stage performing, Oprah was sitting front row center with Tom Cruise. I placed on a note on the photo where they are. You can see the 2 of them on the big screen to the right of the stage. During this part of the taping, we had our finger lights on which is what all the blue "lights" throughout the audiance are. After her act, the producer decided they needed a take 2. So, everybody took their original places on the stage and we watched Byonce do her song all over again. One guest after another appeared. Taping started late for some reason and they taped 2 shows back to back. No intermissions. No breaks. Nothing. They told us to ignore the fact that we have to go to the bathroom....lol. They really didnt want anyone getting up and walking around with all the taping going on. But hey, if you gotta go, you gotta go, right? LOL The first show was hosted by Tom Hanks, and the 2nd show by Will Smith and his wife. Guests included Tom Cruise, Jackie Evancho (that cute little 10 year old opera singer), Josh Groban, Patti LaBelle, Madonna, Byonce, Diane Sawyer, Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah, Halle Berry, Rascal Flatts, Michael Jordan, Jamie Foxx, Stevie Wonder, Jerry Seinfeld, Simon Cowell, Rosie O'Donnell, Dr. Phil, Nate Berkus, Dr. Oz, Maria Shriver, Gayle King, Stedman (Oprah's boyfriend), and Aretha Franklin, who was the final act and oh boy, did she bring the house down!! But, no John Travola!!! The show airs Monday, May 23 and Tuesday May 24. Fun time :-)
The National Football League DSC 4614
The National Football League DSC 4614
The National Football League (NFL) is the largest Professional Football league in the United States. It is an unincorporated 501(c)(6) association controlled by its members.[1] It was formed by eleven teams in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association (the league changed the name to American Professional Football League in 1921 and then settled on its current name in 1922). The league currently consists of thirty-two teams from American cities and regions. The league is divided evenly into two conferences — the American Football Conference (AFC) and National Football Conference (NFC), and each conference has four divisions that have 4 teams each. The regular season is a seventeen-week schedule during which each team has one bye week and plays sixteen games. This schedule includes six games against a team's divisional rivals, as well as several inter-division and inter-conference games. The season currently starts on the Thursday night in the first full week of September (the Thursday after Labor Day) and runs weekly to late December or early January. At the end of each regular season, six teams from each conference play in the NFL playoffs, a twelve-team single-elimination tournament that culminates with the championship game, known as the Super Bowl. This game is held at a pre-selected site which is usually a city that hosts an NFL team. Selected all-star players from both the AFC and NFC meet in the Pro Bowl, held in Honolulu, Hawaii; up to and including 2009, this game took place the weekend after the Super Bowl. In 2010, it will take place the week prior to the Super Bowl, in Miami, Florida. While baseball is known as "America's national pastime", football is the most popular sport in the United States. According to the Harris Poll, Professional Football moved ahead of baseball as the fans' favorite in 1965, during the emergence of the NFL's challenger, the American Football League, as a major Professional Football league. Football has remained America's favorite sport ever since. In a Harris Poll conducted in 2008, the NFL was the favorite sport of as many people (30%) as the combined total of the next three professional sports--baseball (15%), auto racing (10%), and hockey (5%).[2] Additionally, football's American TV viewership ratings now surpass those of other sports, although football season comprises far fewer games than the seasons of other sports.[3] Furthermore, college football is actually the third-most popular sport in the US, with 12% of survey respondents listing it as their favorite. Therefore, fully 42% of Americans consider some level of football their favorite sport. The NFL has the highest per-game attendance of any domestic professional sports league in the world, drawing over 67,000 spectators per game for each of its two most recently completed seasons, 2006[4] and 2007.[5] However, the NFL's overall attendance is only approximately 20% of Major League Baseball, due to the latter's longer schedule (162-game scheduled regular season). - wikipedia.com
