Hello and welcome to my webpage! I am an Assistant Professor in the Geography Department at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. From 2017-2020 I am also a funded external senior research associate at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). Here are my Google Scholar and ResearchGate pages. I use Geographic Information Systems, spatial statistics, large population surveys, and qualitative fieldwork to understand the geographies of violent conflict. I am working with colleagues on a large study investigating trends in environmental change and violence in sub-Saharan Africa. This research project was funded by the Interdisciplinary Behavioral and Social Sciences initiative of the National Science Foundation. My conflict research has been published in the Annals of the American Association of GeographersGlobal Environmental Change, Political Geography, International Interactions, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Journal of Peace Research, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Nature Climate Change, International Studies Review, Eurasian Geography and Economics, and African Geographical Review. My work has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Social Science Research Council, a Gilbert F. White Doctoral Fellowship, and several internal university awards. From 2015-2017 I served as a board member of the Political Geography Specialty Group (of the American Association of Geographers).

I grew up in northern New York and completed my undergraduate degree at American University in Washington, DC.
