Most all the damage seen in this reconnaissance photo was caused by Japanese high command orders as the American approached. On this date the Americans that were still approaching had not yet shelled this area as can be seen that the Manila City Hall east side is still undamaged. Toward the right hand bottom is the Metropolitan Theater, above it is Manila City Hall, and the government buildings on above.

Center right edge is Manila City Hall. The east side has been shelled and destroyed by the Americans. The Ayala Bridge over the Pasig River and most of the other damage in this reconnaissance photo was caused by the Japanese high command orders as the American approached.
