From the Sainsbury Centre for the Visual Arts:
In response to the strength of UEA as a centre of creative writing and literary practice, and in recognition of the work of the writer W.G. Sebald, the Sainsbury Centre presents a two day programme of talks and writing engaging with the themes of writing with images and from objects.
Clive Scott, Emeritus Professor at UEA, scholar and writer on the relationship between photography and translation, will speak on the play of photography in W.G Sebald’s writing and his own work with creative translation.
Dr Nick Warr, Curator of Photographic Collections at UEA, will present on artists’ textual responses to photographs and moving images, while renowned poet Andrea Holland and novelist Patricia Mullin will speak on writers’ responses to material artefacts and objects.
The aim of the three talks is to explore how text and writing across different forms can respond to objects, photographs and moving imagery in varied and inventive ways.
The following day will feature a special writing workshop led by poet and UEA creative writing lecturer Andrea Holland, whose work draws richly from the visual.
