• Andover - a hidden treasure you must see; the place where Jenny Lind, the Swedish Nightingale, left a lasting footprint

Welcome

Andover, which will celebrate its 185th birthday in 2020, is strategically located between the Quad-Cities (22 miles), Galesburg (28 miles), Geneseo (18 miles), and Kewanee (22 miles).  Within this western Illinois area of over 400,000 persons, you will find the amenities usually only offered in large cities:  shopping, educational opportunities, recreation, art, museums, healthcare facilities, and restaurants.

Served by Interstate 74 and IL Route 81, Andover is a community where some 600 persons live, work, raise a family, and retire.  Old historic homes are blended with new homes and historic buildings as you travel in all four directions from the former colony square - now the beautiful ten-acre Andover Lake Park.  This brief video and these photos highlight Andover's tourist attractions.

  • SONS & DAUGHTERS OF THUNDER DOCUMENTARY TO BE SHOWN IN ANDOVER

The Andover showing of the documentary, Sons & Daughters of Thunder, has been set by Kelly & Tammy Rundle, the director and producer from Fourth Wall Films.  The documentary, which was partially filmed at the Jenny Lind Chapel in Andover, will be shown on Saturday, March 30, 2019, 7:30 pm, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover.  This will be a benefit, with donations going to the Jenny Lind Chapel.  Light refreshments will be available from 6:30 – 7:15 pm in Luther Hall

Based on a play, Sons & Daughters of Thunder tells the unforgettable true story of the beginning of the end of slavery in America.  In 1834, eighteen days of student-sponsored debates were held at Lane Seminary in Cincinnati, OH, (this is the segment filmed at the Jenny Lind Chapel).  This shocking oratory sparked intense controversy and awakened a young Harriet Beecher Stowe (author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin) to the realities of slavery.  Fourth Wall Films is an award-winning and Regional Emmy® nominated independent film and video production company, formerly located in Los Angeles, and now based in the Quad Cities.  The film’s premier was held at the Putnam National Geographic Theater in Davenport on Saturday, March 16; and, a second premier will be held at the Garfield Theater in Cincinnati, OH (hometown of Harriet Beecher Stowe), on Saturday, March 23. 4 pm and 7 pm.

The Rundles had this to say about their filming in Andover:“Andover, Illinois is very special to the Sons & Daughters of Thunder production cast and crew.  The film called for an 1800s chapel to stand in for the 1834 Lane Seminary Chapel in Cincinnati, and Andover delivered.  The beautiful 1854 Jenny Lind Chapel--named for world-renowned Swedish singer Jenny Lind--was the perfect location in which scenes of the historic Lane debates would be filmed.

Andover rolled out the red carpet for the Thunder production team during filming in February 2014, ensuring that the chapel was set for the time period by removing all contemporary items, the lot and streets were cleared of snow to accommodate 50-60 cast and crew vehicles, and the community generously volunteered and prepared a delicious lunch for the group on the final day of filming.  A number of Andover citizens participated as extras during filming.”
