Phar-Mor Thanksgiving Power Buys - November 3, 1991
Phar-Mor Thanksgiving Power Buys - November 3, 1991
Yes, Phar-Mor did have stores in Wisconsin at one time, although I am not familiar with the chain. The Phar-Mor discount pharmacy chain was founded by Michael I. "Mickey" Monus in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1982. Phar-Mor did have plans to merge with ShopKo in 1996, but they decided to call off the merger on both ends in 1997. I'm sure we will never know what would have become of both Phar-Mor and ShopKo if they did merge, given the fact that Phar-Mor was a troubled pharmacy chain. Monus, the chain's founder, along with CFO Patrick Finn, were accused of embezzling money from their own company, by taking $10,000,000.00 from Phar-Mor to fund the World Basketball League that Monus founded. The chain went bankrupt in 2002. Here are some Phar-Mor locations in Wisconsin: * Appleton - 601 Westhill Blvd. (now Bassett Furniture) * Ashwaubenon - 2279 S. Oneida St. (demolished for a strip mall anchored by Pier 1 Imports) * Eau Claire - 4070 Commonwealth Ave. (later Electric Ave., now T.J. Maxx) * Milwaukee-Brookfield - 12575 W. Capitol Dr. (now Marshalls) * Milwaukee-Brown Deer - 9140 Green Bay Rd. (now Marshalls) * Milwaukee-West Allis - 2625 S. 108th St. (now Marshalls) * Racine - 2360 S. Green Bay Rd. (now T.J. Maxx)
Mid Century Walnut Dresser by Bassett
Mid Century Walnut Dresser by Bassett
Vintage mid century tallboy dresser, by Bassett. The grain of the walnut drawer facings is contrasted beautifully in tone and direction. One single drawer, with three double drawers. Features stainless steel drawer pulls with black enamel detail. Top appears to be a remarkably realistic laminate, or perhaps is a very well-protected veneer. In good vintage condition, with signs of wear visible. Some minor flaws to the clear coat finish, some surface scratches. General condition is represented in collage photograph.
