AN ARTISTIC RENDERING
OF AMERICA'S FIRST CITY
For centuries and throughout many international occupations and campaigns, the St. Augustine community has endured and survived as the oldest, continuously occupied European settlement in the continental United States. Today, we stand on the brink of our 450th founding anniversary. While commemorating four-and-a-half centuries of unbroken history is incredible enough, the true story of St. Augustine, and for all intents and purposes, the story of America, is the rich cultural diversity that shaped the colonial foundation of our country. This rich tapestry, woven with many cultural threads – Spanish, African, Native American, English, Menorcan, Greek, among others – is the story of America.

Ancient City Mosaic presented by Michaels Stores
® will be a community expression of this cultural diversity where 450 works of art – one for every year of our lengthy history – will be created by 450 local and regional artists. Each artist will be asked to create their impression of a significant historical landmark, event, figure or cultural tradition in St. Augustine.

Collectively, it will be an artistic rendering of America's first city, deeper and richer than any history in America.
