In this unit, middle school students will study immigration in the United States at the turn of the 20th Century.  Students will use inquiry based learning as a basis to study the lives of immigrants who traveled to the United States during the Progressive Era.  Students will study the reasons why immigrants decided to come to the United States, their experiences with the trip itself, and their successes and challenges assimilating into society.  Students' culminating activity will be a scrapbook in which they document the experience of an immigrant family.
