For the ALEX project I created the attached 6 pdf's using the Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX).  Lesson Plan 1 was authored by Tim Mckenzie from Jefferson County.  Lesson Plan 2 was authored by Sheila Green from Jackson County.  The 6 pdf's attached are also available in my Forms and Docs, and  Anastasia Martin EDM 510 Blog

Project PBL#2

For Project Based Learning Project #2 I developed a lesson for 6th grade math students.

Project Name:It is Spring! Time to go on an Outdoor Adventure

This project has been designed to present a realistic, real world challenge, to incorporate 6th grade math objectives (distance/rate and other calculations).

Project Idea: Your team is going on an outdoor adventure. Use the eBook pathfinder to find an eBook about any outdoor activity you and your group members enjoy. Next you need to pick where in the Mobile area you can go to do your activity. Keep in mind you have a budget of $100 and you must plan and calculate the cost of gas, food, and supplies/admission for the activity (your group members plus one adult). Use Icurio to search for “distance, rate”. Use the “NCTM Math Challenge: Gasoline Tanks” to pick your car (you do not have to pick the car with the best car mileage, but you must explain why you did not). You must also calculate how long it will take you to get there from school. You will make a presentation of your findings to our class, and you will post your trip plans on your group blog. Your classmates and family members will be invited to read the blogs and make comments about your trip plans.

All forms used to develop the project were downloaded from Buck Institute of Education.

Project Overview:

Project Calendar: It would be worked on for the last 20 to 30 minutes of a 1 hour and 45 minute block. The exact time spent and calendar are flexible.

For Project Based Learning Project #1 I developed a lesson for 6th grade math students.

Project Name: Hungry! Time to plan a recipe.

Project Idea: Your team members have been invited to a covered dish dinner.  You can bring a casserole or dessert to the dinner, but it has to be homemade and 5 or more ingredients.  Your team will pick a yummy recipe using iCurio, make a grocery list, calculate how much it is going to cost and post it on your blog.  Your group will present your recipe to the class and make comments on blogs of your favorite recipes.  Your family members will be invited to read the blogs and make comments on their favorite recipes.  The class will reflect on the projects and blog comments and decide whether to select recipes to cook on the 4th week.

All forms used to develop the project were downloaded from Buck Institute of Education.
