Professor Dr. Anamik Shah served as the Vice Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad for 2 consecutive terms. Apart from his responsibility at Gujarat Vidyapith, Prof. Shah has completed his tenure as Professor at Department of Chemistry, Saurashtra University on 31st October, 2016; and served as Principal Investigator at Center of Excellence in Drug Discovery, NFDD Complex, Saurashtra University, where multiple other projects have been successfully completed under his direct supervision. Prof. Shah has been awarded BSR Professorship from UGC for three years and he has guided 70 students for their doctoral degree at Saurashtra University.
Interestingly, the Department of Chemistry when established in 1979 under the stewardship of Professor V. M. Thakor, he has the Honour of being first Ph.D. scholar from the newly established department at Rajkot Campus. After appointment as a faculty member at Saurashtra University in 1983, for last 33 years, Professor Anamik Shah has taught Organic, Medicinal, Environmental and Pharma Analytical Chemistry.
Professor Anamik Shah is one of the academic researcher who pioneered industry-academic linkages, by working in several projects on Drug Discovery & also Process Chemistry with Alembic Ltd, Dabur Research Foundation, Claris life sciences, Astrazeneca, Specs biospecs, Nicolas Pirmal, Piramal Research Center, Zydus Research Center and many others. Prof. Shah has also successfully worked on more than 16 National and International Research Projects and have trained several aspirants under his able guidance.
Professor Shah has initiated to create a unique facility "National Facility for Drug Discovery Complex" to support small and medium pharmaceutical & chemical manufacturing units of the region, with initial grant of Rs. 8 Crore under DST (DPRP) Project. It was aimed and successfully worked out as a sophisticated analytical and well-equipped research facility in a separate building, jointly funded by the Department of Science and technology (DST-DPRP) and Industries commissionerate Government of Gujarat, Gandhinagar and generous donation by noted philanthropist late Dr. Dipchand Gardi with the support of Saurashtra University authorities.
Professor Shah has been granted a project of Rs. 13.19 Crore for the establishment of "Center of Excellence" at National Facility for Drug Discovery Complex. In addition to this he has several project from DST, DBT, CSIR, UGC, OSDD, MSMEs and other funding agencies. Moreover, Professor Shah has successfully run research programs of more than 8 core of Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. Along with this he has also supervised project like National Institute of Health (NIH)-USA, Department of Atomic Energy, National Medicinal Plant Board - New Delhi, on diversified fields of medicinal chemistry research on anti HIV, anticancer and antitubercular drug discovery.
Prof. Shah has also initiated a green effort of “Facility for Preservation of Molecular Diversity” [FPMD], which provides facility to preserve the valuable research molecules in the repository. Till now, more than 10,000 molecules from various universities and research institutions have been collected, indexed, and being preserved for potential future applications.
He is currently a President of Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists, Lucknow, which is one of the leading scientific society of India with more than 2200 active members. Prior to the current position, he also served as Vice President of the society during 2002 to 2010.
Professor Shah has pursued his degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Chemistry) in year 1983, Master of Science in year 1977, and Special LLB in year 1988. He is awarded by International Scientific Partnership Foundation, Russia.
