This old city hall was erected in 1928 with the designs of Francis J. Kennard and Son, Lyman V. Martin, and George E. Jacobs. Today it is owned by Polk County Community College. Lake Wales is located in eastern Polk County, which has an interesting history with independent judges. The County Court of Polk County has convened from time to time in cities other than the county seat of Bartow. Currently, county judges may conduct trials and other hearings in Haines City, Lakeland, Winter Haven, and Lake Wales, all of which employ remodeled retail stores. Until 1997 the County Court sat in this historic Lake Wales City Hall.

Lake Wales, Florida Constructed in 1928 by Frost Construction Co based on designs by Franois J Kennard & Son; Lyman V Martin Ass. and George E Jacobs, Ass. According to a Florida courthouse history website, Polk County judges have been known to hold court throughout the county, not just in Bartow. Mainly, they have met in Lake Wales and Haines City for county court proceedings. Up until 1997, when the Polk County Courts met in Lake Wales, they met here. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
