How much Caffeine
in your Coffee
Coffee, Caffeine and your body.
If you drink Espresso, Americana, Cappuccino or Latte, a single shot of coffee in your drink contains approximately 63 mg of caffeine.
You can work it out. Find the weight of your coffee beans you put in your machine for one cup of coffee. Then work it out as there's approximately 839 mg of caffeine in 100 grams of dark roasted coffee beans. If your machine has several strength positions, work the caffeine figures out for each strength. I did and was unpleasantly surprised!
So, a single shot of any of the above coffees means you need 6 and a third cups in a day before you reach the recommended limit. But if you drink double shot coffees, that limit would be only three cups a day. OK, OK, and a sixth!
The toxic level for coffee at 63 mg caffeine is 30 cups in a day. However, for this to kill you, you would need to drink the 30 cups fairly close together.
Coffee houses produce coffee with a higher concentrate of caffeine, for example Starbucks has:
- Short (8 oz): 180 mg
- Tall (12 oz): 260 mg
- Grande (16 oz): 330 mg
- Venti (20 oz): 415 mg
Most energy drinks have 100 mg or above of caffeine per can or bottle.
