Toward Equitable Power Infrastructure Resilience

This NSF-funded project focuses on advancing power grid and disaster resilience with a commitment to equity. By addressing the unique challenges faced by disadvantaged communities, the research integrates equity considerations into power outage impact assessments and grid hardening policies.
Using an equity-risk-aware optimization approach, the project aims to reduce socio-economic disparities caused by extreme weather events. Key innovations include the introduction of the "equity value at risk" concept and computationally efficient solutions to support practical implementation by decision-makers.
This work enhances our understanding of community hardships during power outages and provides actionable strategies to promote equitable and resilient power infrastructure.
