Fountains of Wayne NJ
Fountains of Wayne NJ
Fountains of Wayne, the iconic store on Route 46 that inspired the name of a rock band, closed its doors to shoppers on Friday, March 14, 2009, fueling speculation that it was preparing to go out of business, according to a report in The Record. According to the report, some shoppers were told Thursday by employees that the retailer would close after a clearance sale. Don Winters, whose family has owned and operated the store for more than 40 years, told The Record the situation is still evolving, and news on the fate of the business would likely be released next week. The store, located in Wayne, sells lawn ornaments, outdoor furniture and quirky Christmas decorations. The store received national attention after Montclair native Adam Schlesinger founded Fountains of Wayne, and the band had a hit song with "Stacy's Mom." In 2001, the store had a featured role on HBO's "The Sopranos." I have many memories of bringing my kids here to see the Christmas Display that occupied the entire second floor each Christmas Holiday season when they were small. Sort of like a poor man's "It's a Small World" from Disneyland. It will be missed.....
