Who is Atara Melo? Atara Melo is an experienced art therapist, working over 20 years with a wide range of clients in residential and private settings. Her clients range in abilities and challenges, both physical and developmental. Atara is also an artist and crafter, and she has created artwork using batik, enameling, decoupage and fabric, and also paints and sculpts as a hobby. Atara is constantly adding new skills in a wide array of crafts, and from our guest instructors, has added basket-weaving and jewelry-making. Atara Melo is an alumnus of College of the Siskiyous and of Southern Oregon University. She has a master’s degree in social science and in education, a B.S. in anthropology, with certificates in applied cultural anthropology and in Native American studies. She has lectured widely in Siskiyou County on topics of anthropology and sociology, including presentations at College of the Siskiyous. Atara was also a guest lecturer at the College of the Siskiyous as part of the “Seasonal Celebrations” series. She now teaches sociology at the college. |
