Panasonic Lumix DMC GH1
Like a wolf in sheep's clothing, the GH1 changes the rules of what a DSLR can be. An impressive 12.1Mp still camera that is compact and light, the new Lumix also shoots full HD movies in stereophonic sound! With a Live MOS image sensor, you have your choice of 1080/24p or 720/60p in AVCHD format. The GH1 uses an entirely new standard with its "Micro Four Thirds lens mount", allowing more communication between camera and lens. Continuous auto-focus is solid and fast. Pimp it out by adding the PL mount, baseplate, rods, and your favorite Angenieux, Cooke, and Zeiss lenses. The ergonomic mode dial offers Aperture and Shutter priority and 10 scene modes. There are dedicated buttons for still and movie so you can go back and forth. The easy, photographer-friendly functionality and low profile design hard to beat. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.New Camera!
This is it: my new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ30 digital camera. 8 Megapixel, Leica lens with 12x optical zoom and image stabilization, EVF, manual zoom and focus rings, the ability to shoot RAW images, and many other great features. As much as I like my Canon PowerShot A95, I was continually frustrated by some of its quirks, particularly the inability to take quick snaps because of the incredibly slow autofocus. I opted for this top-of-the-line EVF (electronic viewfinder) model instead of a DSLR for several reasons, cost being one of them. Although this camera was far from cheap, it was significantly cheaper than a DSLR and had 95% of what I wanted. I'll take a break from my Beijing series to post a few test shots. Tell me if you can see a difference. ;)
