the quality of developmental mathematics programs in two-year colleges

Proposed Edited AMATYC Website DMC Description*:

The purpose of the Developmental Math Committee (DMC) of AMATYC is to improve the quality of developmental mathematics programs in two-year colleges by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas.  In addition, the DMC strives to

  •  Provide opportunities for professional development on proven practice for developmental      mathematics faculty;
  •  Share best practices for curriculum and instruction that promote successful matriculation into    first-credit college mathematics courses and other courses requiring quantitative tools;
  •  Increase involvement with national policy-making boards on issues related to college-readiness;
  •  Strengthen connections with other professional organizations regarding concerns of developmental  mathematics; and
  •  Communicate the issues of developmental math reform and the consequences of recent state-  required mandates. 
* Vote scheduled for approval at the 2017 DMC Meeting in San Diego

In progress 3/1/2017 - First revision reviews for the following:  

             1)  Proposed position statement:  "Addressing Critical Factors to Student Success"

                                                                            (Previously resolution "Student Learning Problems")    

               2)  Proposed position statement:  "The Science of Learning"   

            * First draft reviewed during the DMC meeting at the 2016 AMATYC conference

                  Most suggestions for changes by attendees incorporated
