Welcome to the website for the University of California at Davis Advanced Modeling Aeronautics Team.
AMAT competes in the SAE Aero Design Advanced Class. We design, build, and fly a large, remote controlled aircraft made primarily from composite materials such as carbon fiber, honeycomb, and foam. AMAT utilizes education and teamwork to gain experience in design and manufacturing techniques, while integrating past successes with innovation to create a smarter and more advanced aircraft.
AMAT placed FIRST in design, FOURTH in presentation, FIRST overall, and BEST CRASH at the 2014 Aero Design West competition in Fort Worth Texas. The highest finish for any UC Davis Aero Design team ever.
We finished FIRST in design, SECOND in presentation, and SECOND overall in the 2013 competition. We were also the highest ranked American team at SAE Aero Design West.
In 2012, AMAT placed FIRST in data acquisition, THIRD in presentation and FOURTH overall at SAE Aero Design East. We were also the highest ranked American team at SAE Aero Design East and the third highest ranked American team in all of SAE Aero Design in 2012.
Participation in AMAT provides graduate and undergraduate students hands on experience in the design process, CAD, composite construction techniques, and working in a team environment.
