Motor Truck Cargo
Motor Truck Cargo
Part of my job as an Insurance Underwriter is to provide Motor Truck Cargo coverage options for trucking companies. MTC Insurance is rated off of either projected receipts (revenues) or projected miles for the upcoming year, the commodities hauled (i.e. beverages, electronics), radius of operation (long- or short-distance hauling?), financial history, and prior losses (claims). In the case of severe or frequent loss history, the prior losses can be the primary factor in determining the rate - this method is called "loss rating". Common perils include theft, overturn, snafus with temperature (known in the industry as "Reefer" claims), and especially in this economy, the risk of the entire trucking venture going under. Some trucking companies (and their truckers) have it hard right now.
