Social Media Guide


Welcome to alumni social networking!  This guide will help you get started and identify opportunities to connect with Georgetown University alumni.
Social Networking has become the primary means for people of all ages to connect with friends, family, classmates and colleagues, as well as to access news and information.

Alumni can utilize social media to:

  • Stay connected to Georgetown University and fellow Hoyas;
  • Access information about Georgetown such as sports, arts and world issues posted by the university and fellow alumni;
  • Register for university-related events as well as invite others to university/alumni events;
  • Share opportunities such as jobs, volunteerism, and more;
  • Share thoughts and ideas about Georgetown activities, such as basketball or law.

This guide has been developed to help Georgetown University alumni better understand how to use social media to stay abreast of university happenings and news, as well as create a social network of Hoya alumni using Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

Georgetown University’s presence on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter continues to grow every day.

  • Facebook has 829 million daily average users.  Georgetown University Facebook page has close to 89,000 likes which include Georgetown students, alumni, faculty and friends who have Facebook accounts.
  • LinkedIn has grown to more than 313 million members around the world and there are currently 25,000 members from the Georgetown University Alumni Group  who use this social media platform to connect.
  • Twitter has a network of over 271 million subscribers, with Georgetown University’s Alumni Twitter feed boasting close to 6,000 subscribers

The Guide provides instructions on to how to set up Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts, addresses privacy concerns associated with using social media, and features opportunities to join a number of social media networks created by Georgetown University for students and alumni.
