Thursday afternoon - 11 hours after I pitched the yeast. There was a very very slight amount of bubbling in the airlock late morning... then it totally stopped by mid-afternoon. The fermenter is under the worktop downstairs in my utility room... one of the coldest parts of the house so I'm a little concerned about temperature - it's also sitting on the concrete floor! In an effort to kick-start the yeast, I pointed a small fan heater at the bucket for an hour. Some bubbling restarted but only whilst the heater was running so I suspect it was more from heat expansion than the yeast itself! By late afternoon I was looking for a better location and moved the fermenter into the furnace room. It's not particularly hot in there, especially as the weather isn't cold enough for our furnace to run yet. But it's getting a couple of degrees of warmth from the hot water tank. I'm expecting that should be enough.

Self explanatory. One of the best parts about getting a new boiler is that this expansion tank will disappear along with all of these pipes.
