Day 196 - The Basement Bar
We just finished our basement renovation - the carpeting was laid today, and we passed all of our inspections. I guess it's not totally done - we will still need a little touch-up paint work. But, after a month and a half of dishevelment, we can finally start putting things back into our basement. The first thing I wanted to put in the basement was this faux Courvoisier bottle. It was from the wet bar in my grandparents' basement in Hempstead, Long Island. I always had a lot of affection for that bottle, and claimed it from my grandparents' home when the house was put on the market. We never really had a great place to display it, but I could never part with it. Now that we have a wet bar of our own, we can finally display it properly. Behind it is the first thing my husband bought for the new basement - his Poker Room & Pub sign. It's not really my style, but for the most part this is really his basement. The new poker table, soon to be assembled, was my anniversary present to him this year (and will be a 365 photo subject in the near future). In the background you can see our new wine racks. I am happy about being able to store our wine in an organized fashion, as opposed to just keeping it in boxes in the back room. Not only is this a space-saver, but it looks much nicer at the same time.
Wine Rack 001
Wine Rack. So, the wife decided she wanted a wine rack and I got to make it!!! YAY. Building project! He begins the tedious process of drilling holes to make the rests for the neck of the bottles to rest on. 121 holes to drill... 2 times actually. Drill half way through from one side, flip the plywood and drill the rest of the way through from the other side. Less splintering of wood that way.
