Annual Children’s Literacy Festival

The 10th Annual Children’s Literacy Festival

Our club will again be participating October 16, 2010 in The 10th Children's Literacy Festival held at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) at the Cooper Building in Harrisburg, PA.  This event has many sponsors, including the American Literacy Corporation and ‘Super Reader’ who will introduce an interactive reading incentive program that is certain to evoke participation and enthusiasm from students.  Harrisburg Altrusans collect and buys books from libraries and other organizations and distribute these books to children ranging in ages from 3-15. Many children create, write and put together their original Halloween card at the Altrusa tables with the help of Altrusans who also give each child a book Altrusans are rewarded by seeing the happiness on the faces of the children and the excitement the children display of having their very own book! Children are growing up in an information age in which reading plays a critical role, both economically and socially. The importance of literacy is ultimate in society today.
