Recent Updates

This is the official "blog" of this site where participants viewers can get more information about this project than just the raw data of the individual report charts.

Abdel-Rahman

Great news! We were finally provided with a copy of Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics of Alternate Drinking Water Disinfectants (Abdel-Rahman, et al., 1982) and have put it up in the Project Documents page in the Supporting Documents section.

Just in from Traffic 'Copter 8 -

In approximately 6 months we have had:
Just under
3700 visits

from all over the world. This includes universities and professional companies and organizations involved in the ALS Community.

Hooray for patient-driven information!

Reality Check

posted Nov 27, 2011, 6:24 PM by Eric Valor

The purpose of this project is to see if oral consumption of sodium chlorite could be of any benefit in the absence of an FDA-approved chlorite drug. OSC is not meant to replace but merely to supplement until a proper drug is available.

Home-brew drugs can be very dangerous. While the amounts used are safe, failure to follow mixing instructions, mistakes in measurements, or attempting to use unsuitable material could cause injury.

OSC can also never be as effective as chlorite administered intravenously. The IV method delivers 100% of the stabilized chlorite to the blood while the oral route subjects the chlorite to a gauntlet of acidic fluids and tissue barriers. This definitely changes the chemical structure and reduces eventual delivery of chlorite by an unknown amount (though certainly below 100%).

So while OSC might show some efficacy, without doubt real pharmaceuticals with optimized delivery methods would be even more so. Until that time, however, we are on our own to try to affect the progression of ALS.

Calculated Decision

posted Oct 20, 2011, 12:39 AM by Eric Valor

We have added a Dosage Calculator page.

This will allow people to calculate measurements for mixtures appropriate to their body weight. There are two different types: Low concentration with high volume (appropriate for most people) and high concentration with low volume (for people who have trouble swallowing a lot of liquid).

All measurements are in Metric for accuracy. The "American"/Imperial system is a terrible confusing mess of incompatible units. Every cookware or pharmacy/medical supply will have containers with Metric notation.

Newly Organized!

posted Oct 8, 2011, 4:14 PM by Eric Valor

We have added many Supporting Documents in the Project Documents page, as well as organized the documents into three categories:
  • Supporting Documents
  • Participant Logs
  • Instructions and Templates
Hopefully this makes it easier to understand the purpose of the project and answer any safety questions.

Project Underway

posted Sep 24, 2011, 3:45 PM by Eric Valor

The project is now underway. We have three active reports on the Documents page with a few more coming in the next couple of weeks. So far the reported adverse effects are quite mild and transient. Also on the Documents page is a brief set of instructions and information with a dosing computation guide.
