Little Barn on the Palouse
Little Barn on the Palouse
Spokane was the first stop on our trip to Glacier Park...primarily because it was way cheaper to fly there than into Kalispell, and I had heard the drive was pretty and only about 4 1/2 hours. Besides, they have a Super Wal-Mart in Smelterville, Idaho. Who could ask for more? Also, I thought if we stayed there overnight, I could get in some sunset photography at Palouse Falls. So the family was comfortable at the Hotel Davenport and I jumped into the rental toward my destination. I realized about 20 minutes into my drive, I would never make sunset, so I got off I-90 at Cheney and headed south, then west, toward Steptoe. No way I was going to make it to the top of Steptoe Butte by sunset, either, so I just started to head north back toward Spokane. Highway 195 is a nice smooth road, but doesn't have a whole lot of places to really pull off and I started to worry I might not get anything. Then to my right, I saw this cloud, which in my mind, is shaped like Great Britain, or maybe even Idaho, and as luck would have it, there was a nice pull off at the top of a rise. A nice range of color in the distance -- even though the wind had stirred up a lotta dust from the plowed up fields. I'm just guessing if I placed this on the map anywhere near where I really was because I just can't remember.
