Tandoori travails...
Tandoori travails...
If you've never eaten a lobster before, it can be quite intimidating. But if you get over the initial hitch, the crustacean could be pretty tasty...
This marinade is easy to prepare and will keep for up to a week in the refrigerator. It can be used on chicken with similarly tasty results.

1 small onion quartered
2 cloves garlic
1 tbsp ground cumin
1 tbsp ground coriander
1 tbsp paprika
2 tbsp lime juice (freshly squeezed, if possible)
1 ? cup plain yoghurt
1 ? tsp salt
? tsp fresh ground black pepper
1 tbsp sugar
2 (1 ? lb) live lobsters

METHOD: To prepare the marinade, place all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.
For the lobster, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Place live lobsters into the boiling water and cover tightly.
Cook 4 or 5 minutes, until the lobster tails are curled and the shells have turned bright red.
Remove lobsters from water and place in an ice-water bath to halt the cooking process.
Break off the claws and separate the head from the tail.
Remove the meat from the tail in one piece by cutting along the soft underside shell to expose the flesh.
With the back of a knife, lightly crack the shells of the large claws and gently remove meat in one piece.
Place the lobster tail and claw meat in the marinade, cover, and refrigerate for 4 hours.
To serve, preheat the oven to 500°F.
Place the marinated lobster meat on a baking sheet and cook for about 4 minutes, until the meat is opaque white and the marinade is slightly browned.
Day 139 - Rock Lobster
Day 139 - Rock Lobster
Day 139 - These guys were on sale at TnT this week, so we picked some up, wifey wanted lobster and we looked at costco, who was selling lobester tails at $27 a pound, were we got these at 7 a pound. for $21 we got 3 pounds of lobster claws and head included. Needless to say thes smelled good as I was cooking them up. They are for tomorrows surf and turf dinner which should be extra yummy. Bringing me to my next point of reading online that this is the most humane way to cook these guys. Just drop it in boiling water, which I had never done before. As a kid I would remeber when my parents did lobster, they would drain the juices, then chop it up and cook it in a pan. From my understanding if you chop them up the lobster head can feel pain, but just dunking them into the hot water they just roast and feel less pain. None the less I guess it is just the way it is. You can see that our pot is not large enough for both at the same time, so you can see Sebastian (altho technically from the little mermaid he is a crab) cooling off on the left and Lester the lobster from PEI just going into the pot. Well from my understanding you cannot go wrong with this, just a little lemon and butter and you will have yummy boiled lobster. Oh and props to wifey for helping me snap this up.
