  • (Hardwood Floors) Engineered, pre-finished, click and laminate.
  • Wood flooring is any product manufactured from timber that is designed for use as flooring, either structural or aesthetic. Bamboo flooring is often considered a wood floor, although it is made from a grass (bamboo) rather than a timber.
  • Non-resilient flooring of maple, pecan, oak, beech, and various other hardwoods.
    hardness scale
  • The Mohs scale of mineral hardness characterizes the scratch resistance of various minerals through the ability of a harder material to scratch a softer material. It was created in 1812 by the German mineralogist Friedrich Mohs and is one of several definitions of hardness in materials science.
  • Units by which the scratch hardness of a mineral is determined. The units of hardness are expressed in numbers ranging from 1 to 10, each of which is represented by a mineral having a lower ranking number.

This is a view of the upper ends of the tower cores, with the little square in the middle marking how much needed to be cut from the original 1-inch square stock basswood parts. Basswood was an excellent choice because of its hardness and the ability to avoid splitting and splintering. These cores will serve as the templates for plastic "angle iron" parts to be formed around separately from the model, and will then be removed after the towers are built. The assembled towers will then be painted before permanent mounting in these locations on the model deck.
