meet Tobias, the jumpingest kitty you'll ever meet. Makes Olympic high jumpers look like pikers. When he was still quite young (about 9 weeks) Linus damaged his ACL while leaping after a toy we like to use to burn off some of the kitten's apparently boundless energy stores. It's this faux-leopard tail thing on a plastic stick that can be waved around and dragged on the ground. They loved it. One night they were going gangbusters when Tobias came down after a particularly spectacular leap and came up lame. His left leg was hanging in a sickeningly loose fashion from the knee down. Hew couldn't put weight on it at all and held it up off the ground. I checked to see if his leg was actually broken, and while alarmingly loose below the knee, the bones felt intact to my unprofessional fingers. So, it's midnight, we call our vet (who has after hours emergency services for a premium, though way less than a full time emergency vet), and go to meet him at his clinic, not far from our house, thankfully. He investigated, said the ACL was torn but could not tel exactly how badly. Tobias got bandaged up in a cast like manner (see a few pics back for that), with his leg sticking out to the side somewhat, and we were told to keep him as immobile as possible. Within 24 hours he had managed to slip out of his original wrapping, which led the doctor to tuck his leg up under his body and wrap it that way. Tobias had to spend some time in a bathroom with a kennel for him to relax in, but it was hard to keep him still for very long - he was very young and really hyper. That wrap lasted two days, and had to be redone multiple times as he kept finding ways to wriggle out of it. He also learned to run and jump on three legs, but did tire more quickly than his four legged brother, which was just as well. Three weeks of it and the doctor took the wrap off completely, warning us to keep him quiet. We did, he stopped limping noticeably after about 7 more days, and is fully healed and functional now, able to leap, run and annihilate our furniture with the best of them..
We went to Mayfest this morning. Walked around, took photos with 5 different cameras. Two of them digital (canon rebel xti and vistaquest vq1005) but I don't feel like photo editing right now at all. The heat and sunblock make me tired. Drinking iced tea and thinking about reading a book or watching more bewitched. the film cameras were: minolta sr-1, viv ultra wide & slim & lomo actionsampler. Left the poor holga at home cos I'm using it's strap for the minolta sr-1. Shaun forget the smena 8m, but he said it was relaxing not to worry about taking photos, so it was okay. Didn't spend any money because I have very little interest in owning other people's art (I feel bad about this) though there was one booth I was tempted by, meant to remember the artists name and of course I don't. All the concessions require the purchase of tickets which I sort of don't do out of protest and I sort of don't do because it's a hassle and furthermore I am poor.
