  • A roller shutter, roller door or sectional overhead door is a type of door or window shutter consisting of many horizontal slats (or sometimes bars or web systems) hinged together. The door is raised to open it and lowered to close it. On large doors, the action may be motorized.

Here's the back of the shutter assembly when you unscrew it. There's a clever cog/pawl assembly that allows you to wind up the shutter to the right speed, each time you trip the shutter the mechanism drops down to the next slower speed To put the whole thing back together roll the shutter blind so it's entirely on the bottom roller and set the shutter speed selector so it's blank betwen the zero and 500th setting. Locate the assembly on the spigots of the two rollers and make sure cog on the top roller meshes with the speed selector assembly. It should all drop in nicely with a bit of wiggling. Screw the shutter assembly back with 2 or 3 screws and tension the bottom roller by turning it anticlockwise 4 or 5 turns. Lock of the tensioning screw and cock the shutter to so it's closed on the T setting. Fire the shutter so it opens and then again so it closes. Check there is sufficient tension in the spring for the shutter to close. You may need to tension the bottom roller spring a bit more. If it's all working OK you can reassemble. I don't have a clue how far the shutter speeds are out, but they look "about right". I suspect these shutters were never that accurate, the whole thing doesn't look manufactured that precisely. I wouldn't operate a speed graphic f/p shutter on it's side either, as that creates a lot more drag in the mechanism, slowing down the speeds.

Day 60 - Mar/1/2010 Tim Horton's Roll up the Rim to Win is back. It must have just started now as I didn't get one yesterday. Anyway, as you can tell, I didn't win anything. Although, I recall winning muffins and cookies at least three or four times a week. It was actually very weird! Anyway, I kept giving them away to my colleagues lol! Anyway, wish I could win one of the bigger prizes this time!
