Show 90 - 03rd March 2012

STELLENBERG NG Church Hall

Photos taken by Krystle Ann Callaghan

The Show theme was "Summer Frolic". Gerda Chambers was hugely instrumental in decorating the hall with beach towels, beach furniture and soft toys wearing sunglasses. We continued the practice of inviting cat welfare organizations to bring cats for adoption. Three more cats found homes, bringing the total of cats who found homes via this initiative to 11. (We started welfare exhibition on Show 88.)

We want to thank Krystle Callaghan who kindly took professional photos of the cats. She did a sterling job, using vinyl background which could be disinfected between shoots. The club and breeders are allowed to use the photos for free on any of their media as long as the watermark remains to give accreditation of Krystle's work. Krystle's website is at http://krys-cal.weebly.com/

There is a gradual a decline in the number of cats on shows: a trend seemingly also experienced by other clubs countrywide. A total of 71 cats were entered. They were:

The Burmilla is a cross between a Burmese and a Chinchilla, hence the name Burm + illa.

Burmillas were last seen on shows in SA more than 20 years ago.

"DOLL- FACED" EXOTIC
In Persian breeding, the gene that causes a Persian cat to have long hair is recessive. If mated to a cat that carries s short hair gene, kittens with short hair will result. In Persians, these cats are called Exotics.

SACC has strict out-crossing rules. Persian cats and Exotic cats may be interbred. The resulting kittens can be either registered as Persian or Exotic, depending whether they are long-haired or short-haired.

Chinchilla Longhairs (Silver with black tipping only) and Persian Chinchillas may be interbred. The resulting kittens must all be registered as Chinchilla Longhair.

Show 90 saw evidence of a kitten resulting from a mating between a Chinchilla Longhair and an Exotic Chinchilla. One kitten has Short hair. The kitten is therefore in essence a short-haired version of the Chinchilla Longhair: a first world-wide!
