From my Tree... I have always been interested in local and family History. When the 1901 Census came out. "It seems some time ago now!" "I only had a few names to go on!" With the help of the Internet, i now have over 300 people and 41 Surnames in my family tree. I can trace my Family back over 200 years. To the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the Bradford West Yorkshire Area I was born and bred in Bradford and have traced my family back over 200 years just before the start of The Industrial Revolution in the Bradford area. Then 14 Runswick Terrace. Leonard worked at Ripleys Mill in the dying department.where he contracted magnesium poisoning. (Caused by his work) Which leads him to be very ill most of his later life not being able to work through illness affected the family and at times they had to scrape by on very little as there were no benefits at that time or composition.Even so, he lived to the age of 80. This is Pheobe Taylor/Robinson Leonards sister dressed up for the local Guild Concert. She was said to be a bit of a comedian and was naturally funny. She loved an audience. Married to Eli Taylor they lived at 8 Smiddles lane all there married life. The House it was owned by GG Leonard who bought it in 1873 along with the shop on Manchester Road.Later her Brother Joseph Robinson was a lodger until he died. Granted City status in 1897. and In 1974 it became a Metropolitan Council. Bit of early Bradford History A Celtic tribe "The Brigantines" were so far as recorded in History as the Aboriginal Inhabitants of the Bradford Area. In Saxon times Bradford was a small village by a river crossing. (A Ford.) Brad meant Broad. It became known as the Village with the(Broad"Ford).. As the village began to grow the people were allowed to have a weekly Market and it soon became a busy Town. In the Doomsday book 1086 Bradford had less than 1000 people. A man of Norse descent named Gamel was the biggest land owner at the time ............................................ ![]() ................................................
