Dr. Alireza Alaei

He obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2012 from the University of Mysore, India. He received his B.E. in Computer Engineering (Software) and M.Sc. in Computer Science from the Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, Iran and the University of Mysore, India in 1995 and 2007 respectively. He has worked as a Post-Doc research fellow from June 2012 to July 2015 at the Laboratoire d'Informatique (LI), Informatique Département - Polytech, Université François Rabelais, Tours, France. He has published more than 38 research papers in international journals and conferences. His areas of interest include document image analysis and recognition, pattern recognition, image processing and machine learning. Since January 2007, he has closely been working on the theme of artificial intelligence in general and document image analysis/recognition and biometrics in particular. During his master degree, he worked on a pattern recognition problem specifically handwritten numeral recognition. For his PhD thesis, he worked on the segmentation and recognition of handwritten document images. His Postdoc research work at the University of Tours was on fast detection and recognition of symbols (logos) in administrative document images enabling document retrieval, document classification, tracking, etc.  He worked on the problem of image quality assessment with a focus on document images as well. He is also interested working on the problem of biometric authentication in general and signature/writer identification/verification in particular. 

Results and contributions of my research works in various domains have already been published in the forms of 3 theses and more than 50 research papers including 12 International Journals and 38 International conferences and workshops. Pattern recognition, symbolic data analysis, image processing and machine learning are of his research interest and he has been using different image processing, pattern recognition, and machine learning methods to develop different applications of document image analysis and biometrics. Along his research activities, he has built strong collaboration with other research laboratories/universities at national and international levels. Accordingly, he has an active collaboration with 3 International laboratories/universities in Australia, India and France.

As a lecturer, teaching assistant and instructor he has conducted teaching at different universities and institutions. He has spent almost 2 years (part time) from 1996 to 1998 at the Amir Kabir Industrial University Jahad-E Daneshgahi, Tehran, Iran as a lecturer. Courses taught at the Amir Kabir Industrial University Jahad-E Daneshgahi, Tehran, Iran were for under graduate students.
