2007/09/05. Tahmasb Mazaheri became the New President of I.R. Iran's Central Bank

Tehran, 2007-09-05; Tahmasb Mazaheri, the former minister of economic affairs and finance (from 2001 to 2003), became the 17th president of the Central Bank of the Islamic Rep. of Iran, today.

Former president Dr. Ebrahim Sheibani, how had been started on 3 May 2003 said goodbye to his companions and will return to the university for continuing his educational activities. Sheibani's signature appeared on Iranian banknotes – beside Mazaheri's signature as sign. 30 - after sudden death of Dr. Mohsen Nourbaksh in spring of 2003.

In future, we will consider his signature beside Dr. Davoud Danesh Jafari, as the minister of economic affairs, on Iranian banknotes under signature number of 34.

2007/09/04. 500 Rials Banknote Period is Finishing; 

                   New 100,000 Rials Denomination will Probably Issue on 2008

The head of printing bureau at the Islamic republic of Iran's central bank, Muhammad Qods Elaahi, announced that the 500 Rials banknote is printing in limited amounts this year and will stopped its issuing from the beginning of the year 1387 SH (2008), probably; while they have done initial request and acts for printing new denomination of 100,000 Rials from 2008. "We're waiting for essential permissions of higher responsibilities of the Bank and Financial and Economic Affairs Ministry", he said.

The 100,000 Rials banknote will appear as the highest denomination of Iranian banknotes, if released.


2007/08/28. New 250 and 500 Rials coins released:

August 2007; The Central Bank of the I. R. Iran released a new form of 250 and 500 Rials coins. These two coins have below characteristics:

250 Rilas coins:

Diameter: 24 mm. Thickness: 1.34 mm. Weight: 5 g. Alloys: Cu, Al, Ni. 


500 Rilas coins:

Diameter: 25.5 mm. Thickness: 1.5 mm. Weight: 6.35 g. Alloys: Cu, Al, Ni.

The 500 Rilas coins was a bimetal coin from the beginning of issue for 3 years (2004-2007) and now it has mintaged as the shape of 250 and 100 Rials coins.


2007/04/20. A new rare 100 Rials banknote

 Recently, a new kind of 100 rials banknote was found within last distribution of 100 and 200 Rials by Central Bank of I.R. of Iran.

This note is the same of pick number 140g but with WMK Arms (I.R. Emblem) and has signature 31 (Dr. Safdar Hosseini and Dr. Ebrahim Sheibani).

Because of rarity of this banknote, the value was too many increased during  last year and worth up to 25 Euro now.

Reservoirs of 100 and 200 Rls notes is finished

The Central Bank of the Islamic Rep. of Iran (CBI) announced at the end of Iranian year 1385, March 2007, that the reservoir of lower denominations 100 and 200 Rials banknotes is distributed between all Banks and there is no any printed or semi-printed banknote papers of them, at the Central Bank.

It means that these two denominations will never reprint and the Nickel coins will replace them.

< xml="true" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" prefix="st1" namespace="">Iran's Central Bank had announced that they will try to develop e-banking and will issue larger denominations if the market would need. The 50,000 Rials new banknote has released last week for this purpose and it may take place for larger 100,000 Rials denomination in the future.

Iranian banknote dealers have started to collect the rest 100 and 200 rials banknotes and reserve them for increasing the value and golden days!

New 500 Rial banknote:

The Central Bank of Islamic Rep. of Iran, CBI, has released the 500 Rials denomination with new serial numbers (large / cardinal numbers) with signature 33, Dr. Davoud Danesh Jafari and Dr. Ebrahim Sheybani, at the March 2007.

Professional collectors know that differences between numbers are very important in collecting Iranian banknotes and maybe the shape of serial numbers effects on the value of note significantly.

 Central Bank of I.R. Iran issues a new denomination: 

New banknote: 50,000 Rial Issued, March 12, 2007  

 The central Bank of the Islamic Rep. of Iran issues a new promised denomination of Iranian currency, 50,000 Rls.

The specifications of 50,000 Rls banknote is:


Color: < xml="true" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" prefix="st1" namespace="">Orange – Lemon, with portrait of Imam Khomeini in color Onion-skin purple (like new 2000 Rls note)

Size: 166*79 mm.

Obverse: Imam Khomeini figure (like 10,000 & 5,000 Rls notes)

Reverse: Iran map with Persian Gulf highlight section, Iranian Nuclear Energy emblem and a Persian art script that contains a Hadiths of Great Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) that had said: "If the science exists in this constellation, men from Persia will reach it"  

Security features:

-         A 2.5 mm security thread windowed with CBI emblem and the number 50000 is visible.

-         Offset see through register 50000

A new S/S (4 v) stamps issued in commemoration of Isfahan, the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World.

New Issue of 1000 Rial banknote:

The Central Bank of Islamic Rep. of Iran, CBI, has released the 1000 Rials denomination with new signature 33, Dr. Davoud Danesh Jafari and Dr. Ebrahim Sheybani, end of  December 2006.
